Features Of A Wise Personal Account

Select a personal or business account, and enter your country of residence, email address, and a strong password. You can also sign up with your Apple, Facebook, or Google account.

Whether it is the right choice for you, will depend on your personal preferences, expectations and spending habits. As with any account or new financial product, it’s best to do your homework, research competitors and see if it suits your needs. The defining feature of a Wise personal account is the ability to send, hold, receive and convert money into more than 40 currencies, allowing you to spend the local currency across some 150 countries. These fees differ again when sending money, although they all begin at 0.42% of the transaction (excluding a conversion fee). Sending $1000 AUD to a UK bank account and transferring the Australian dollars to pounds would cost $5.18 AUD; while sending $1000 AUD to an Australian bank account costs only 0.57 cents.

Remitly allows delivery of cash to a home or business, while Wise does not. But Wise does provide the option to send money via Apple Pay or Google Pay, a feature that isn’t available from Remitly. Meanwhile, Remitly’s Express option enables speedy transfers (within minutes using a debit card), whereas a Wise transfer may take up to two business days. If you’re sending money in the same currency from one Wise account to another, there is no fee to convert the amount, but Wise charges a nominal fee to complete the transfer.

Wise lists 50 countries where you can send money from the U.S. You also may be able to send money to someone in another country if the recipient’s bank account is in U.S. dollars, euros or British pounds. Overall, money can be sent to more than 80 countries, which is fewer than some of Wise’s competitors. If you’re used to sending international wires through your normal bank, the prospect of switching to a new provider can be a bit daunting.
