      How to be an Ofsted registered Nanny?

      Becoming an Ofsted registered nanny is becoming increasingly popular, with a growing number of parents requiring registered childcare in order to use their childcare vouchers.

      Current costs:
      Parents who employ an Ofsted registered nanny can claim tax relief on their childcare costs. Ofsted registration currently costs £103 (as of September 1st 2012), which excludes the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks as of July 1st 2013 (previously CRB checks).

      The current annual cost of renewing the Ofsted Registration is £103.

      DBS check
      Nannies can complete the DBS check through Babyem (Ofsted also provide a DBS service).  Scheduled appointments take place on the same weekend as courses in central London. Further details can be found HERE. Childcarers are now required to complete the DBS check before registering with Ofsted.

      What courses do you need to become an Ofsted registered nanny?
      To become an Ofsted registered nanny you will need to join the voluntary part of the childcare register, and have the following in place:
      – Complete an Ofsted compliant Common Core Skills & Knowledge training course
      – Nannies are required to complete a Ofsted compliant Paediatric First Aid qualification

      Common Core Skills and Knowledge Training
      The Babyem Common Core of Skills course is the recommended course for nannies wishing to register with Ofsted. The common core skills course is accredited at level 3 through Open College Network, providing nannies registering with Ofsted with a official qualification.

      The course covers the 6 common core skills & knowledge areas including:

      • Communicating with children, young people, their parents and carers
      • Child and young person development
      • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child
      • Supporting transitions
      • Multi-agency working
      • Sharing information

      Option 1: OCN Common Core Skills & Knowledge course. Course costs £120 and certificate of attendance are provided on the day.

      Ofsted compliant Paediatric First Aid
      The Babyem Paediatric First Course, covers all the necessary requirements for registration on the Ofsted Voluntary register. The course takes place on Sunday’s on a monthly basis in Central London. Courses cost: £85 and certificates are provided on the day.

      Public Liability Insurance

      Should a nanny be held legally responsible for death or injury to a child or third party, or third party property damage, public liability insurance would cover the damages and legal costs payable, up to the limit of indemnity.
