      Common Core Skills Distance Learning Course

      This common core skills distance learning course covers the 6 common core skills & knowledge areas. Candidates can choose to complete the assessment and receive the level 3 qualification through Open College Network (OCN) at Level 3.

      This is the recommended course for Nannies and homebased childcarers wishing to register with Ofsted under the Voluntary Childcare Register. Candidates are required to complete the online course through our online portal.

      Venue: At student’s own home

      Cost: £120 including VAT. Candidates can choose to pay £40 to receive the OCN Level 3 Accreditation.

      Course Length: Students can complete this at any time but this course would roughly take 6-8 hours.

      The Common Core set out by the Children’s Workforce Development Council reflects a set of common values for practitioners. These areas include:

      Candidates completing the post course assessment to receive the qualification are provided with on going support.

      The Common Core Skills & Knowledge training is suitable for after school Workers and all unqualified home-based child-carers wishing to register with Ofsted. Please note that sufficient command of the English language will be required to successfully complete this course.

      Yes, candidates are emailed login details  in order to access the online portal.

      You can complete the course in your own time in the comfort of your own home. The course consists of 6 modules, which comprise of a number of lessons. After completing each lesson candidates are required to complete a multiple choice test, where you need to achieve 80% before moving to the next topic.

      Upon completion of the course, candidates receive a certificate which they can automatically download and is suitable for registering on the voluntary part of the Ofsted childcare register.

      What happens when I book online?

      As soon as you have completed the booking section, you will receive a welcome email with login details so you can start the course anytime.

      Do I need to complete the course in one go?

      No, you are welcome to complete the course in your own time.

      What happens if I want to complete the OCN assessment?

      To complete the OCN assessment you will need to contact Babyem directly on: 0208 986 9008. The additional fee is £40. You will then be sent a assessment paper to complete at home and have 5 weeks to do this. Once successfully completed (and marked and assessed) you will receive a level 3 qualification through Open College Network. Please note the qualification is not required for Ofsted registration. 

      If I am registering with Ofsted what do I need?

      If you are completing the distance learning common core skills course for Ofsted registration, once you have received your certificate online you can start the CR1 Ofsted registration form ONLY if you have completed the other steps ( DBS, public liability insurance and First Aid).

      Common Core Skills - Assessment requirements
      In order to complete the Common Core Skills assignment candidates are required to have the following in place:

      1. Internet access and a working email address
      2. Up to date internet browser such as: google chrome/ internet explorer/safari/firefox.
      3. Ability to hear audio/video via your computer
      4. Use of a computer to study the course – tablets and smartphones are not advisable for studying.
