What is the Gentle Sleep Practitioner Course?

Babyem’s Gentle Sleep Practitioner Course is an online course with interactive online training that teaches you the most cutting-edge, current evidence based thinking in relation to the understanding of the science of normal sleep for newborns and infants.

What makes our approach different is that unlike many other courses, we don’t teach cookie-cutter ‘one size fits all’ strategies, because every baby and family is unique.

The course has been created in partnership with two world-renowned experts in the field; Holistic Sleep Coach Lyndsey Hookway, author of co-founder of the Holistic Sleep Coaching Program, and Andrea Strang, author, Gentle Sleep Coach and Doula, so you can be confident that you are receiving the best training available.

How do we normalise infant sleep biology while promoting healthy and safe sleep habits for the entire family?

Sleep is one of the biggest struggles parents face.

Night time sleep disruptions and short naps are common reasons why babies need additional support and reassurance and there is no limit to the information and advice that can be found online.

But is the free online information and advice based on evidence?

Do the tips and strategies used to help babies sleep longer take into account long term effects and biological and developmental needs?

Quite often the answer is no.

We believe that if you provide support to young families, especially in-home support, you are in a unique position to have a significant positive influence on families. This makes it doubly important that you give them the right help.

What is a Gentle Sleep Practitioner?

As a Gentle Sleep Practitioner, you will be a compassionate listening ear for tired parents, and provide evidence-based information about normal newborn and infant sleep. You will also be able to guide parents with gentle, responsive, and age appropriate information and strategies to improve sleep, when appropriate. In addition, you may be providing families with hands on practical support providing respite or helping in implementing gentle sleep strategies to assist babies and parents in getting better sleep.

What you receive when you sign up to the Online Gentle Sleep Practitioner Course – babies 0-18 months

In this course you will learn the science of infant sleep and gain an understanding of the common challenges families face, as well as, practical and gentle strategies to help optimise sleep for infants and parents.

Currently there is no set industry ‘qualification’ that qualifies you to be a sleep consultant. This means that after any sleep course, you could technically call yourself a sleep coach / sleep consultant / sleep nanny etc…

The course is intended to add to your current modality and increase your knowledge and ability to help families you are working with to overcome common sleep challenges. This course gives you a strong understanding of sleep science and practical strategies to help families get better sleep. This will be a particular advantage if you are working hands-on with the child and family.

However, the course does not delve into the intricacies of assessing a child and family’s sleep or the many factors that affect a child’s sleep. It also does not focus on troubleshooting complex issues.

If you are looking to build a full time business working as a sleep consultant and completing assessments with families our Holistic Sleep Coaching Program would be the best option for you.

Before signing up for this course, you are required to have:

  • A good level of conversational English. The course is taught in English and assignments must be completed in English.
