Nanny Training - Common Core Skills & Training (Level 3)

In order to register on the Ofsted Voluntary Childcare Register nannies are required to complete a course that covers the common core of skills and knowledge areas.

Our Ofsted compliant common core skills and knowledge course is accredited through Open College Network (OCN London) at Level 3. Candidates can also choose to complete the common core skills in childcare course and gain a certificate of attendance (popular with nannies looking to register with Ofsted).

But this is not just an ofsted course for nannies, this is professional Nanny Training where individuals come together, share ideas and support each other (often making a number of friends in the process too!)

This popular course supports learners to gain a deeper understanding of key common values, that promote respect, diversity and a positive environment for all children to thrive. In addition to covering the 6 key core skills areas (effective communication skills, child and young person development, safeguarding, managing transitions, multi agency team working and information sharing) we also address important topics such as play and managing behaviour.

We provide ongoing support to our nannies and childcarers too, ranging from free support with registering with OFSTED to childcare related topics. We also provide support to Nannies through coaching, and other childcare and maternity courses.

Testimonials

O. Ozdemir

Very interesting day. I have learnt things that I can take away and use with my own children as well as those I care for.  I would definitely recommend this course to any nanny or childcare wanting to attend a professional nanny course.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to have to complete the level 3 Common Core Skills assessment in order to register on the voluntary part of the Ofsted childcare register?

No, a certificate on attendance in the Common Core Skills and Knowledge training is accepted by Ofsted.

What is the benefit of complete the level 3 Common Core Skills assessment?

The level 3 qualification is also accredited through Open College Network, and enables candidates to receive a formal childcare qualification. The qualification also enables you to demonstrate your understanding (to employers and agencies) of the 6 key areas learnt during the course.

Is there a chance that I could fail the assessment?

Your tutor marks your assignment and provides detailed feedback. If there are any areas that need attention, we let you know and give you one week to make the changes and resubmit your course work. If at that stage you do not meet the level 3 criteria (assuming your answers are correct) your work will be graded at level 2.

I have already completed a childcare course i.e. NVQ, therefore do I still need to complete the Common Core Skills course if registering with Ofsted?

Do we have breaks during the training?

We have 2 short breaks in the morning and afternoon and a 45 minute lunch break.

What do I bring on the day?

We provide pens, pads and your course pack. We provide a variety of refreshments throughout the day. We do not provide lunch, however we are surrounded by a number of cafes, supermarkets and restaurants. Alternatively, candidates are welcome to bring lunch with them.

I now have the skills and confidence to communicate effectively with children

I am a community development worker and recently completed the Babyem Paediatric First Aid and Common Core skills course. Both training sessions have given me the skills and confidence to communicate effectively with children. We worked a lot as a team, covering key areas including child protection and child development, essential in my role.

Equally I learnt a lot from the paediatric first aid course which was full of useful information regarding how to give first aid to children of all ages. I strongly recommend both courses.
