Nanny Training - Common Core Skills & Training (Level 3)

In order to register on the Ofsted Voluntary Childcare Register nannies are required to complete a course that covers the common core of skills and knowledge areas.

Our Ofsted compliant common core skills and knowledge course is accredited through Open College Network (OCN London) at Level 3. Candidates can also choose to complete the common core skills in childcare course and gain a certificate of attendance (popular with nannies looking to register with Ofsted).

This popular course supports learners to gain a deeper understanding of key common values, that promote respect, diversity and a positive environment for all children to thrive. In addition to covering the 6 key core skills area (effective communication skills, child and young person development, safeguarding, managing transitions, multi agency team working and information sharing) we also address important topics such as play and managing behaviour.

Courses are led by experienced trainers who have all managed nursery settings and have worked within the nanny sector.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to have to complete the level 3 Common Core Skills assessment in order to register on the voluntary part of the Ofsted childcare register?

No, a certificate on attendance in the Common Core Skills and Knowledge training is accepted by Ofsted.

What is the benefit of complete the level 3 Common Core Skills assessment?

The level 3 qualification is also accredited through Open College Network, and enables candidates to receive a formal childcare qualification. The qualification also enables you to demonstrate your understanding (to employers and agencies) of the 6 key areas learnt during the course.

Is there a chance that I could fail the assessment?

Your tutor marks your assignment and provides detailed feedback. If there are any areas that need attention, we let you know and give you one week to make the changes and resubmit your course work. If at that stage you do not meet the level 3 criteria (assuming your answers are correct) your work will be graded at level 2.

I have already completed a childcare course i.e. NVQ, therefore do I still need to complete the Common Core Skills course if registering with Ofsted?

No, Ofsted state that you either need to have a level 2 qualification in a related childcare subject (covering the common core skills) or complete a common core skills and knowledge course.

Do we have breaks during the training?

We have 2 short breaks in the morning and afternoon and a 45 minute lunch break.

What do I bring on the day?

We provide pens, pads and your course pack. We provide a variety of refreshments throughout the day. We do not provide lunch, however we are surrounded by a number of cafes, supermarkets and restaurants. Alternatively, candidates are welcome to bring lunch with them.

The course was excellent and the trainer was amazing!

I completed the Common Core Skills and Knowledge course to become an Ofsted registered nanny. The course was excellent and the trainer was amazing! He was clear when explaining, professional in delivering the course and was also friendly and supportive. The content of the course was very useful and I learnt many useful things. The assessment helped me to deepen my knowledge in many subjects which is key for a nanny who wants to develop professionally. I highly recommend Babyem to everybody who wants to develop further in childcare. Worth every penny!!

The course was productive and informative

Common Core skills training was very productive and informative. Paul’s instruction skills and presence kept me and fellow students interested all day. The team building exercises for communication, was fun, yet the learning curve point was direct to all.

I now have the skills and confidence to communicate effectively with children

I am a community development worker and recently completed the Babyem Paediatric First Aid and Common Core skills course. Both training sessions have given me the skills and confidence to communicate effectively with children. We worked a lot as a team, covering key areas including child protection and child development, essential in my role.

Equally I learnt a lot from the paediatric first aid course which was full of useful information regarding how to give first aid to children of all ages. I strongly recommend both courses.
